Alice Barlow-Zambodla

Alice Barlow‑Zambodla is the Eastern Cape Landscape Director, working at the intersection of biodiversity conservation, regenerative land management, and rural livelihoods. Based in Matatiele, she leads landscape-scale initiatives focused on restoring ecological systems while strengthening community resilience and economic opportunities, particularly through regenerative agriculture and sustainable commodity value chains such as wool.
Her work centres on integrated catchment and rangeland management, bringing together communities, traditional authorities, NGOs, and government to co‑develop solutions that address both environmental degradation and poverty. She is actively involved in collaborative governance platforms like the Umzimvubu Catchment Partnership, helping to align stakeholders around shared goals for water security, biodiversity conservation, and inclusive development. Alice’s approach is grounded in systems thinking, partnership-building, and locally driven innovation, with a strong emphasis on linking ecosystem health to livelihoods and advancing nature-based solutions at scale.
